Updated: Mar 2

1. Introduction

I want to warn you about a problem: criminals are getting SIM cards using other people’s ID details. If a SIM card is issued in your name, it can cause big problems for you.

2. Why is This Important?

  • Financial Activities: Most banking apps, OTPs, and digital payments use your mobile number.

  • Social Media and Emails: Hackers can reset your passwords and access your accounts.

  • Illegal Use: Criminals can do wrong things with a SIM card linked to your name.

3. Warning Signs

You might see strange alerts on your phone or notice a change in your mobile services. If you feel unsure, it is best to check.

4. TAFCOP Portal (Sanchar Saathi)

The Indian Government has a tool to help: the TAFCOP portal athttps://tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in/telecomUser/

5. Steps to Check Your SIMs

  1. Go to the Website: Visit the link above.

  2. Enter Your Mobile Number: Look for “Know Mobile Connections in Your Name.”

  3. Request OTP: Click “Request OTP.” You will get a text on your phone with a code.

  4. Enter the OTP: Type the code in the box and click “Validate.”

  5. See Your Linked Numbers: You will see a list of all SIM cards linked to your ID. Check each number.

  6. Spot Unknown Numbers: If you see numbers you did not authorize, they might be ghost SIMs.

6. How to Act on Unknown SIMs

  • Report or Block: Next to each unknown number, click “Report” or “This is not my number.”

  • Give Reasons: Explain why you think the number is not yours.

  • Keep Proof: Save screenshots of the list and your report.

7. Stay Safe (Prevention Tips)

  • Protect Your ID: Keep your Aadhaar, Voter ID, and other documents safe. Share copies only when needed and write the purpose on the copy.

  • Stay Alert: Watch for odd charges, messages, or calls.

  • Check Often: Use the TAFCOP portal from time to time to see if anyone has linked new SIMs to your name.
