How I Made the Transition from Mechanical Engineering to Cybersecurity Engineer

As you know my name is Biswajit Sahu, and Now I am a Security Engineer in a cybersecurity firm. I never thought that I would end up in this field, but I am so glad that I did.
I graduated from college with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2018. I had a good job lined up at a manufacturing company, but I quickly realized that I was not happy. I was not passionate about my work, and I felt like I was not making a difference in the world.
Little did I know, as I entered the interview room, I had very little understanding of cybersecurity. I had no idea that this encounter would lead me on an incredible journey into the world of safeguarding digital information.
I decided to make the switch to cybersecurity, and I am so glad that I did. I have been working in the field for more than couple of years now, and I love my job. I am constantly learning new things, and I feel like I am making a difference in the world.
If you are thinking about making a career change to cybersecurity, I encourage you to go for it. It is a rewarding field with a lot of growth potential. Here are a few tips to help you make the transition:
Start by learning the basics of cybersecurity. There are many online resources that can help you do this.
Get involved in the cybersecurity community. There are many meetups and conferences that you can attend.
Get certified. There are many cybersecurity certifications available. Getting certified will show employers that you have the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the field.
Making a career change is never easy, but it is definitely possible. If you are passionate about cybersecurity, I encourage you to go for it. You won't regret it.

Network with people in the cybersecurity industry. Attend industry events, join online forums, and reach out to people you know who work in cybersecurity.
