As everyone is aware, my background lies in Mechanical engineering. Prior to the interview, my educational journey took me through Mechanical engineering from 2014 to 2018. Subsequently, I gained practical experience as a production engineer between 2018 and 2019. Additionally, I pursued an online course in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from 2019 to 2020.
When I appeared for a face to face Cybersecurity interview panel, I possessed limited knowledge in this field. During the cybersecurity interview in 2020, the interviewer requested an introduction. Then, the interviewer posed a straightforward question: "Given your Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical engineering, your experience as a production engineer, and completion of an AI/ML course, why should we consider you for a cybersecurity position?"
Without hesitation, I replied within three seconds, stating, "I am excited to work as a Cybersecurity engineer because my background in Mechanical engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning provides me with a strong foundation. I can utilize these three domains to address real-world business challenges to the cybersecurity domain."
The interviewer was genuinely impressed by this response, and I successfully secured a position at a cybersecurity firm. This approach has proven effective in my work, particularly in my role in Connected Vehicle security (Mechanical + AI/ML + Cybersecurity), where I apply these skillsets to safeguard all the connected vehicles on the road.
Reflecting on my career, this brings me immense happiness. The lesson from this discussion is that no skillset goes to waste when you possess genuine passion for technology.
